It's time to act: #GrowingEquality
Wear the SAGE Pin and endorse the SAGE charter of principles for Gender Equality.
Gender equality is fundamental to our democracies and central to our higher
education and research systems. Evidence shows that research performance is
limited by persistent inequalities, and this negatively impacts innovation and
society at large.
- Women occupy only 20% of the governance seats of
universities, contributing to a lack of female role models in the top level
positions.
- Women account for 47% of PhD graduates in Europe but they
gradually disappear from the academic career track.
- Women researchers tend to hold more part-time positions
and/or to have more “precarious” working contracts than men.
- Gender dimension is often overlooked in the research cycle
which leads to the formulation of bias and/or inadequate policies, programs,
theories, and outcomes.
